Yes, the code un-shortens links, changes or adds the affiliate code, then re-shortens (if you select that choice to shorten).

does it just redirect the links or does it actually rewrite the links?

Any text in the comment that is an Amazon URL, shortened or normal, is modified with the affiliate tag in the plugin settings. So this includes plain test, and any URL in the HREF tag.

The end result is that the Zon URL gets the affiliate from the plugin settings, overriding (replacing or adding) the affiliate code entered by the commenter. It is not a redirect, but a changed HREF tag (and non-HREF URL text).

Yes, i see when i click the link it has my affiliate id, but it is the same link as when i added it, is there a way that it also change the actual text in the post?

Actually, it’s supposed to do that. But as I was testing it, it’s not working correctly. Maybe something with newer WP versions – it was working with WP 5.4.

Working on it, but not quite fixed. Have to update things for newer PHP versions (relating to array naming), plus I’m getting a double “?” on rewritten URLs. Strange.

    But the theory is that

    – an Amazon URL without an affiliate tag gets one
    – an Amazon URL with an affiliate tags gets the ‘correct’ tag
    – the above works for shortened Amazon links
    – you can optionally shorten links if you have a bit.ly key

I’ll probably get the double-question-mark bug fixed by Monday.

BTW, note that the plugin only works well with Amazon US store links. There is no provision for multiple non-US store affiliage links (such as an affiliate link specific to UK Amazon URLs).

yes, i know. but i notice that it keeps the same text in the post, it just changes the link. since when i click on the link it shows my affiliate id, but i copy and paste the link it shows, it shows the old affiliate id

(I’ve responded to your question, but the comment is being held in moderation for some reason. Short answer: I need to fix a few bugs. Hope to get it done by Monday.)
