Update failure: The package could not be installed

Having the same problem, awaiting a response from them.

Update: I just received an email from them and they are aware of the issue and are working to resolve.

Hello… The problem still exists with 2.23.12.0 – Update failed: The package could not be installed. The other error I’ve had on some sites is along the lines of ‘package is empty’.

For sites where it is set to auto-update, they’re repeatedly going offline for 10-minutes each time it tries.

Plugin update failed.

@andyhiggins – looks like you are installing the Premium plugin, do you have a Premium licence?

@kazzijazz – can you try installing a fresh version from the WP repository?

Hello @vupdraft… Yes, I have a Migrator licence, and the sites’ plugins are logged in to my account to receive updates. I can manually upload 2.23.11.0 to get around the problem but that won’t update to 2.23.12.0 either.

The same applies to the free version on other sites. If I delete the plugin and reinstall from the WP repository, it works, but doesn’t update later.

During the past 13 hours (beginning 11/7/2023, 8:40pm PST), my site has gone down 15 times (for 5 or 10 minutes each time) as UpdraftPlus tries to auto-update. Users receive the error

Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance. Check back in a minute.

I just deactivated the UpdraftPlus plugin to avoid further downtime.

When I try to update the UpdraftPlus (free version) manually, I get the error:

Update failed. The package could not be installed.

Here is an example of the error being logged every 10 minutes or so in my PHP Error Log:

Warning: unlink(/tmp/654bca9a3a551-XNUb8Q.tmp): No such file or directory in /home/rvcsitewhm/public_html/wp-admin/includes/class-wp-upgrader.php on line 386

De-installed and re-installed a fresh version from WP repository (as kazzijazz recommended above) and it worked. Thanks!

I have the paid version Version 2.23.6.1 and I get the same error when trying to update and if I go to my account the version there to download is the same I have

Please advice what to do

The “Uninstall-reinstall” option is OK if you only have one site.
However, if you are looking after a number of sites it is very time consuming.
