I was alerted that there was a new update available. I tried to update from the WP dashboard plugin page and got an error saying the update failed due to destination file error. The plugin was deactivated by WP. I tried to install Updraft Plus again and got the following:

“Installation failed: Destination folder already exists.”

So how do I find and delete the folder in order to reinstall? And what the heck is going on here?

    WP 4.9.5, Win 10, Chrome

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi

What I suggest is to go to the location of the plugin folder in /WP-content/plugins/ with a ftp client (FileZilla for instance) and delete the plugin folder.
Then once done go in the WP dashboard and reinstall the plugin.

That’s a thought. Might solve the problem, but doesn’t explain what happened.

Usually in those cases an auto update failed. There could have been a hiccup in the network, or it could have been am permissions issue, or a hundred other reasons. Mostly it seems to happen once, then go away. What @bkantique suggested will fix it and any permissions issues.

Thanks to both of you. I deleted the folder and reinstalled, which certainly solved the problem (if it hadn’t it would REALLY have been news, right?). I had to reeducate myself on using cPanel, which is always useful.

Now if either of you could explain why WP’s basic “recent comments” widget (not a plugin, the default one in the WP installation) doesn’t work any longer…
