Woocommerce is not able to update from 8.9.2 to 8.9.3

I keep getting the following error when trying to update: Update failed: Could not copy file. woocommerce/assets/images/pattern-placeholders/table-floor-interior-atmosphere-living-room-furniture-square.png, Download failed. Not Found

I do not have any image with this description on my site. I would appreciate help to resolve this issue please. I did try downloading the new version and installing as a new plugin but after “Unpacking the package” i received the same error message.

  • Hi @tjbear52

Thanks for reaching out — we’re happy to help!

The error message appears to be related with a pattern utilized at the site. Here are more details on patterns.

Feel free to delete said pattern, and try updating to WooCommerce version 8.9.3 afterward.

I hope this helps! Let us know how it goes.

How do I find the pattern-placeholder on my website? The articles tell me what a pattern is but not how to identify where the one causing the issue is on my website so I have no way to delete it.

Any more detailed help available please, this is all unknown territory for me. Thanks

I see. Thank you for reaching back, clarifying things further @tjbear52 .

Just to be sure, did you already have a chance to try deleting the WooCommerce plugin via the screen at WP Admin > Plugins (its settings and data will remain safe in the database, don’t fret), then install version 8.9.3 afterward, and see how it goes, or otherwise?

    — Be sure you have a good backup in place of your full site and database. You can ask your host for backup functionality or you can consider using a service like?Jetpack. If something goes wrong, you will be able to restore it.

We look forward to your response. In the meantime, please let us know if you have any further questions or concerns.

The WooCommerce plugin will not allow me to delete or deactivate it!

    Hey, @tjbear52!

The WooCommerce plugin will not allow me to delete or deactivate it!

This is because you have active plugins that depend on WooCommerce.

To be able to delete Woo, please temporarily deactivate all dependent plugins (WooCommerce plugin will have a list saying which plugins you will need to deactivate on the Plugin list), and then proceed with deleting and reinstalling Woo.

    I hope this was clarifying.

    Have a wonderful day!

I have deactivated the 2 plugins that were dependant on WooCommerce – those being Google Analytics for WooCommerce and WooPayments. I am still not able to delete WooCommerce or update it!

I’ve never had any issues updating any of my plugins before. What is going on with this Woocommerce update? It has been an issue for days now.

    Hey, @tjbear52!

I understand this is a frustrating situation, but we will do our best to help you sort it out as soon as possible.

Can you please share a screenshot of your plugins page so we can take a look? I recommend using https://snipboard.io. You can share the direct link to the image as a response to this topic.

    Looking forward to your reply.

    Hi @tjbear52,

Since plugin dependency was introduced, you need to fully delete all plugins that depend on your plugin before deleting your plugin. Of course, this isn’t practical if you have a lot of plugins that depend on it. I see there are only two here. You could delete those two, then WooCommerce, and reinstall all three.

    A couple of alternatives:

    • I’m curious: If you try to install the upload manually using the zip file, do you get the same error?
    • Have you tried updating over FTP, too?

Nevertheless, going back to the top, I wanted to clarify something for you:

I do not have any image with this description on my site. I would appreciate help to resolve this issue please. I did try downloading the new version and installing as a new plugin but after “Unpacking the package” i received the same error message.

This image is indeed part of the WooCommerce core plugin (you can corroborate this here).

I’m curious about the error message you’re getting, though, and I’d like to learn more about it.

    • Do you see anything on the WooCommerce > Status > Logs?
    • Do you have FTP access to navigate to that path and see if you can find the image? Alternatively, you can try using a plugin like WPIDE, as I did here: https://snipboard.io/NxuZtQ.jpg).

    Thanks!

    Hi

I did try installing the upload manually using the zip file which did not work. I have no idea what FTP is.

I deleted everything to do with woo and checkout, rebooted my website and have now finally been able to get the update to load. What an incredibly frustrating experience!!!

    Thanks for your assistance.

    Hi @tjbear52,

I’m sorry to hear about the difficulties you’ve experienced with the manual installation.

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) can indeed be a bit complex if you’re not familiar with it. However, I’m glad to hear that you’ve managed to update after rebooting your website.

With that said, I’ll mark this thread as resolved now. If you have any further questions, I recommend creating a new thread.
