I was prompted to update to version 6.0.21, but when I tried I got the following error:

An error occurred while updating Wordfence Security: The update cannot be installed because we will be unable to copy some files. This is usually due to inconsistent file permissions. tmp/configCache.php

I tried deactivating some recent plugins I have installed, including User Access Manager, but nothing helped. I can’t think of anything that would conflict with file permissions. I am not using any other security plugin. I have very simple .htaccess files at the host root and WordPress installation.

On the Wordfence options page, try turning on “Disable config caching” near the bottom of the page, and saving the options.

If your site is somewhat busy at the moment, the configCache.php file is probably being modified while trying to update the plugin, which can cause that warning from WordPress.

In some cases, you might have to remove the configCache.php file manually by FTP, or just wait a while after changing the option above, if there is something odd happening on the host that is holding it open. The file is located in wp-content/plugins/wordfence/tmp/
