    Hi,

I’ve recently updated the plugin on two sites and I’m getting this error message on both:

Warning: require(/wp-content/plugins/autodescription/inc/classes/bridges/ping.class.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /wp-content/plugins/autodescription/bootstrap/load.php on line 156

Fatal error: require(): Failed opening required '/wp-content/plugins/autodescription/inc/classes/bridges/ping.class.php' (include_path='.:') in /wp-content/plugins/autodescription/bootstrap/load.php on line 156

    Hello!

It appears the update might not have gotten through to your site entirely. Or the server’s file caches still need to be refreshed.

Either way, I recommend deleting the plugin and reinstalling it — this ought to fix either issue.

    I hope this helps. Cheers!

Hi @cybr, thanks for the reply. Fortunately there’s no error message now, it went away on second attempt, so consider it resolved. However, if a complete uninstall involves losing all entered SEO data, it’s not a viable solution. It would be such an effort to recreate all contents and settings, I’d not use it even as a last resort. If you mean just deleting the plugin in the file manager and uploading the new version manually, I’ll try next time this error occurs. Thanks again!

    Hello!

TSF doesn’t delete any data when you delete/uninstall the plugin. I highlighted that in the first line of this KB article: https://tsf.fyi/kb/a/108.

We have not even created an option for data deletion because a single misclick would be disastrous, as you indeed foresee. I even want to obscure the “Reset” button on the settings page for this reason: https://github.com/sybrew/the-seo-framework/issues/504.

WordPress does provide plugins the ability to detect removal/uninstall when this is done via the interface, but most plugins do not utilize this, and if they do, they should provide you a toggle (I don’t know why WordPress itself doesn’t add this). If you are concerned about this, deleting plugins via FTP would be best, as it bypasses native uninstallation.

In any case, the other solution would be to restart the server. However, not all site owners have this ability, and it wouldn’t work if the plugin files corrupted during unzipping, so I didn’t suggest that.
