Update crashed my site :)

I have a WooCommerce site running on a VPS with NGINX and PHP-FPM, 2 cores, 2GB RAM.
When I updated to 8.1.6 the PHP usage went through the roof. 100% on both cores. The site became completely unresponsive and I had to revert the deploy and restart PHP.
The logs say nothing (other than a bunch of timeouts). There were other updates in the initial deploy, but I since then updated each plugin and core separately in separate deploys.
The problem is definitely with search everything… Any one else have this issue? Is there an upgrade routine in the update that might have caused this?
