update core – You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page

  • What are the server requirements to get the update core system to work? When I try the “WordPress 2.8.4 is available! Please update now” link I just get the error “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page” There is no error log in the system message and nothing in the apache error log file. I’d love to get this working on my server but I am not sure where else to look to resolve this. Server is cpanel on Linux php 5.2.9 . File permissions for wordpress are standard 644 and directories 775 mostly. No special DB prefixes either and this is on about 10 wordpress installs so it is something with a server setting somewhere.

  • Hi,

    Have a check with these options:

    -> Disable all the plugins and enable it one by one to find out the culprit.
    -> upgrade your wordpress to the latest version
    -> Assign 766 recursive permissions to wp-contents folder.
