I had maintenance mode on while trying to update this plugin to 7.0.4. It seemed to go well and it looks updated, however it threw a fatal error at the end underneath (Go to Plugins page | Go to WordPress Updates page).

Could you help me to identify what this means?

Warning: require(/data/7/3/[REDACTED]/web/.maintenance): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /data/7/3/[REDACTED]/web/we-includes/load.php on line 330

Fatal error: require(): Failed opening required ‘/data/7/3/[REDACTED]/web/.maintenance’ (include_path=’.:/usr/php74/lib/php’) in /data/7/3/[REDACTED]/web/we-includes/load.php on line 330.

@swmkii The error refers to WordPress not being able to find the .maintenance file. It doesn’t seem to be related to Really Simple SSL. If the error persists, you could re-create a .maintenance file in the root, to see if that resolves the issue.

    Thank you so much!

You are right, the file doesn’t exist in the site root directory.
It’s always scary when you encounter an unknown error. Hopefully this won’t happen again soon. I updated WooCommerce as well today and that error didn’t display at that point.

Then I think this was a ‘glitch’ in the WordPress update process, without any further consequences.
