update cart function not working

I have added a virtual product through WooCommerce to the website. In testing, I ended up with 3 in the cart. I tried using the update cart function, as well as the red X by the product, and neither changed the cart. Then I changed the product to only allow one purchase of the item. That changed my quantity to 1 automatically, but it is still charging me for three of the item all the way to paypal. I’ve searched all through settings and can’t see anything I’ve missed. Please help.
