• Edit: Tech support was very responsive and helped us to fix the issue. Deleting and reauthorizing our license key on our live site, then re-cloning it to a staging site seems to have fixed everything.

    Common staging domains are whitelisted by default by WP Mail SMTP and don’t require an extra license.

    Original review: Be aware that this plugin requires you to purchase an extra license if you want it to function on a staging/dev site. Used to be able to do this without issues.

    The WP Mail SMTP Lite (free) plugin version doesn’t require a license to be used on any website.

    Or are you referring to the Pro (paid) plugin version? If yes, please note, that our system recognizes domains as local or staging URLs automatically and does not count them towards the site limit of a license as long as they match any of these staging URL patterns:
