Update 5.7.1 to 5.8 Killed the site

    Totally dead.
    Black screen, browser busy.
    Switching on debug in wp-config gave no message either.

    Deleting woocommerce and replacing the files with the previous version did not help.

    I ended up removing the hosting in cpanel, reinstalling wordpress and restoring the site.

    Not a trivial exercise with over 400,000 products.

    (Once again UpdraftPlus Premium saves the day.)

    I’ve lost todays work and sorting out the orders is going to be a pain but it could have been worse.

    I’m now back to 5.7.1 with an update I’m not going to apply.

    But at least I’m up and running and it’s still just over an hour until midnight.

    I think there is something seriously wrong with the 5.8 update.

    (I’m running Storefront theme.)

    Hey @andyrjames,

    It seems that you run a pretty advanced shop with a lot of products, so the first piece of advice I would like to give you is to always try all updates, not just the WooCommerce plugin, on a staging site and if all goes well run those on the live site.

    For cloning a site you could use UpdraftPlus Premium or WP Staging plugin.

    That said, when you’re having trouble the first thing to do is run a conflict test. Usually, when there is a new version of WooCommerce it could be that one or more plugins installed on your site become incompatible with WooCommerce, and this can cause unexpected behaviors.
