I’m having the same issue. Had to roll my site back to the day before I updated to the current version to get things working again.

I can’t display the TEXT editor or the edit link window.

same. lost text editor. Need to rollback. I will not use gutenberg. All the menu options have gone. Any idea when this will be resolved?

Okay, I disabled all my plugins, and the classic editor started working properly. I reactivated them one by one, and found that Arconix FAQ was causing my problem with the Classic Editor.

But that’s the extent of my debugging skills.

With WordPress 5.5 there are some changes in the Editor as far as I can see. There are additional Block… .php files in the newer Version of WordPress and also some changes inside the CSS files. Any kind of Plugin that accesses or changes the “Post Format Admin UI” can cause the Classic Editor to stop working or malfunction. Post Format Tabs can disappear. Link, Add Media and Accordions in the Post Format Admin UI can get unresponsive. Even the Title Box in the Post Format Admin UI can disappear and prevent you from editing. For more info can take a look at this article.

I also found Arconix FAQ to be the culprit. Hasn’t been updated in 9 months. Deactivated plugin and all is good. Except that I have no FAQ plugin. I sent a support request to them, as have others. Thank you.
