• Add me to the list of people locked out by this update. What a way to start the week! Flushed the cache and my cookies (almost literally really), but that didn’t do the trick. Renamed the plugins folder. That didn’t do the trick. When is an update the problem? When it does this.”Database Update Required

WordPress has been updated! Before we send you on your way, we have to update your database to the newest version.

The update process may take a little while, so please be patient.”
The only code I know to address this is, FUBAR.

  • I updated 15 sites in 30 minutes – without a single issue. So this is specific to your site. Try:
    – switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

    – running the upgrade manually via wp-admin/upgrade.php

Okay, I will do this. All of this? Or try one solution at a time? You realize the potential for damaging error has just been significantly increased. No question it is specific to my site for sure. That does not generate any less stress for me though.

In what way? This is just basic troubleshooting.

by re-uploading all files and folders. Can overwrite any tweaks. Face it. Up to 3.5.2 this has been a smooth running deal. Just look at all the folks in their respective individual threads popping up now with the same problemo.

Any tweaks are in wp-content – which, as noted above, you should not be overwriting.

    1 – did not work
    2 – did not work
    4 – did not work
So we’re left with 3 – re-uploading all files and folders. What a relaxing day. Anyone taking bets on whether replacing the same files with the same files fixes the problem?

Double checking – in one post here esmi says “delete the files and folders before …”and in another WPyogl says “overwrite” … which is it? https://www.texasflycaster.com

I don’t know where you are referring to, but don’t overwrite.

as noted above, you should not be overwriting.

… and option 3 — replacing the same files with the same files — did not work. I am still locked out of my site going on 12 hours.

    Now I have this:
Warning: require_once(./admin.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/artist1/public_html/texasflycaster.com/wordpress/wp-admin/index.php on line 12

    Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘./admin.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php’) in /home/artist1/public_html/texasflycaster.com/wordpress/wp-admin/index.php on line 12

    Two steps back.

At least I finally got it back to just broken – now showing the “Database Update Required” – so what’s the real solution? All suggestions have failed. I am still locked out of my admin 27 hours later.

Site url? And please remember that these forums are staffed by volunteers, so there is no “resolve this now” here. If that’s not suitable for your needs, you may want to consider hiring someone.

Apparently someone decided to delete my last. The url is above, but it’s https://www.texasflycaster.com, [Sales pitch redacted]

[No bumping. If it’s that urgent, consider hiring someone.]
