• Hey there,

after the update random sites/posts aren’t accessible anymore. The plugin itself is set to “Everyone” but random posts and pages aren’t set correctly (I would have to change every access role in the pages / posts manually to everyone )so I had to switch back to version 3.0.1.

Hi there. I’m with iThemes. Thanks so much for the heads up. We’re looking at this right now.

This new update also completely broke all my websites on multiple multisite networks. Nothing better than getting flooded with emails and phone calls from multiple clients panicking that their site is down. Every page on all sites on each network now defaults to “Members with a certain role”, which effectively locks down access to each site completely. It also automatically created 5 additional pages that are completely unnecessary and should not be created by default. ie Register, Edit Your Profile, Update Billing Card, Welcome, and Your Membership. Now I have to spend the entire day reverting this plugin for dozens and dozens of sites that are totally locked down, delete these extraneous pages, and also clear the site cache to remove all the cached pages that are locked down. These plugin developers should have done a better job of testing their plugin thoroughly before releasing an update that critically affects so many sites.

@jarelsc Before you bash the developers, it’ll be good to give them something to work with. Specifically:

    1. A URL where they can see the problem
    2. Relevant screen captures (image or video)
    3. A list of clear steps to reproduce the issue
    4. As many details as you can provide about your environment, e.g. that it’s a multisite, versions of core & relevant plugins, the theme you use, any custom code that may be applicable

This error can be reproduced by installing a previous version and updating to the current version.

@jarelsc comment is correct and justified. The developers could have done a better job testing the update before releasing it.

To fix this, you must revert to a previous version and delete the new pages created by the plugin.

I’ve just updated from 2.2.10 to 3.0.2. This changed nothing.

I then clicked the button to use the new 3.0 version. This led me to an error page, because the 3.0 version no longer used the same admin pages. Scary!

I then ran the migration job, and checked previously-restricted pages, and restriction settings seem to have disappeared – no roles were selected.

Going back to 3.0.1 didn’t help. Neither did going back to 2.2.10 ??

I have the same problem after updating this plugin.
Every page must be save again.

    – Install or update on the newest version
    – Clear cache in plugin WP Fastest Cache
    – Reload your homepage

I also have the problem that on several sites the specific settings for this plugin disappeared on every page.
At the WordPress plugin section a message appears that Restrict Content Pro (which I do not have) needs to perform system maintenance.

Does this mean that the free version does not work anymore?

Same problem as has been noted above. When switching from Legacy, a site that had only a few pages restricted now has at last half of ALL pages restricted, randomly. I restored from backup and will wait until sometime later to finish the upgrade.

    Hi everyone,

Thanks for reporting this! We are working on a fix and will have it released later today.

In the meantime, you can downgrade to the Legacy version of Restrict Content from the Restrict > Settings > Misc > Downgrade to Legacy Restrict Content page.

Check out our HC post for details detailed instructions.

My sincere apologies for any inconvenience or confusion this created.

Commenting to follow this because the EXACT same thing happened to me. I changed my pages one-by-one but I can not do this to the posts… I have more than 800+
A tool too give access in bulk would be great.

Is there any update on this? 3.0.3 appears to still be broken and hasn’t fixed the problem. You mentioned there would be a fix “later today” 3 weeks ago.

I tried 3.0.4 late in January 2022. It still breaks my pages.
