3 of our sites have auto updated to 1.23.5

Visiting the UpdraftPlus backup page has caused an error on all of them:

It looks as if some of the files did not copy across.

Can you try downloading the plugin from the WordPress repository and installing it?

If this doesn’t help can you let us know your php and WP version?

5 sites have now auto updated, all causing the ‘error’Your Site is Experiencing a Technical Issue’ email.

The error email is triggered by the first visit to the Backup/Restore page, any future visits appear fine.

All sites on WordPress 6.2.2 with a variety of themes. PHP versions 8.1.20, 7.4.33 and 8.0.29

Every site is doing the same thing:
    > Apply update or following auto-update
    > Visit the Updraft Backup/Restore page
    > Error email arrives

Based on the information “The error email is triggered by the first visit to the Backup/Restore page, any future visits appear fine.”, it is very likely that your web hosting company has a PHP “opcache” which is temporarily combining code from different versions of UpdraftPlus when an update is performed (i.e. an old file combined with a new file), until that cache catches up. This results in an error that you don’t see again.

I’ve tweaked the 1.23.5 release so that it will add an extra check in order to prevent that causing an error. It is best though if the web hosting company would look into how to prevent that, as ultimately the error message is just a nuisance and doesn’t indicate a real problem beyond the cache, once.

    Hi @davidanderson

Glad to hear it seems to be a one time event on each site.

Although I must mention my updates have been across at least 6 hosting providers with dedicated, VPN and shared hosting, ALL of which have resulted in same error email.

Thanks for the quick update @davidanderson.

I’ve gone ahead and cleared the cache on my site, and even restarted my VPS, but I’m still getting the same error. I thought I installed the updated version (plugin down page states it was updated 19 minutes ago), but a recursive folder compare doesn’t show any changes.

Same for me. Cleared caches, dis- and reenabled the plugin. Yet the issue persist.

PS: I am working on a fresh installation for a new client and do nto face the issue.

    Hi,

Downloading the www.remarpro.com zip showed that www.remarpro.com hadn’t re-generated the plugin – this appears to happen some times. So, a 1.23.6 has been released to force it. Does that have the same issue?

    @davidanderson

1.23.6 appears to work as expected.

    Thank you
