Upcoming Events Widget fails

I have installed the newest 2.0.7 version of ai1ec and cannot get the Upcoming Events widget working. Without events it performs as expected with the “no event ” message and links. After loading just 1 event it breaks the page, showing nothing beyond the header. I have tried 3 ways of installing and cannot get it working.
