    Hello,

I got a complaint that the homepage at akeadojo.com was not displaying the upcoming events, but there are daily events entered into the calendar.

When I investigated, I confirmed there are lots of events, nearly every day, but in the upciming events widget (front page) and in Agenda view (calendar page) it displays “No Upcoming Events.” Today’s date is September 16. If I clicked the “previous” button on the “choose a date” button (agenda view) it would show events from July (two months ago). I did the following steps to troubleshoot…

    • turned off caching plugin (no change)
    • went to dashboard -> theme options -> save options (to regenerate CSS)
    • disabled all plugins except WordFence (no change)
    • switched to “twenty fifteen” theme

While in “twenty fifteen” theme, it still shows no upcoming events in the front page widget or agenda view, but when clicking the “previous” button on the “choose a date” button (agenda view) it now shows events from last week.

I have switched back to the regular theme (Clean Box by Catch Themes) and re-activated most of the plugins since I have confirmed these are not the cause. (NOTE: since switching back, it behaves the same as while in twenty-fifteen theme, “no upcoming events” and clicking previous shows last week’s events, but no upcoming, although there are lots of events in the calendar for next week).

Your thoughts and suggestions please? Thank you in advance!

  • Hi

This page https://akeadojo.com/calendar/ is showing me the current events. Were you able to fix it?

Events > Settings > Viewing Events tab > Default Calendar Start Date > delete the date and save settings to fix.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

No, I have not fixed it. On front page in the “upcoming events” sidebar Widget it says “no upcoming events” and on the calendar page, “agenda view” shows no events although there are lots of events in the calendar. I have checked using MSIE, Edge and Chrome on one PC and Safari on an iPad. Same results on all.

I checked the “default calendar start date” in the settings and it is currently blank (nothing to delete). Just to be thorough, I even put a date in there, saved, then deleted it and saved again. No change.

    Any other suggestions?

    Hi @wynaco,

It’s your method of embedding. Since the calendar on the main page is fine, your display method is limiting the events.

There are multiple ways to display your calendar.

    1. Via the Calendar Page setting in Events > Settings > Viewing Events tab
    2. Via the shortcode, under Events > Settings > Advanced > Shortcodes
    3. Via the Upcoming Events widget under Appearance > Widgets
    4. Via the Superwidget addon, under Widget Creator (used to display your calendar on other websites).

If using #3, check the widget settings under Appearance > Widgets > and edit the widget to make sure you don’t have any filters.

If using a shortcode, check the short code and make sure it’s not filtered.

    Hi SunnyLal,

Thanks for sticking with the issue, but perhaps I am not communicating the problem effectively. I do indeed know there are multiple ways to display the calendar. I am using the “Calendar Page” (#1) and the “Upcoming Events” widget (#3). I am not using shortcodes or a SuperWidget. I also take advantage of the filter possibilities as appropriate (great feature!).

A picture is worth a thousand words, so please have a look at thie “special” page I made to illustrate the problem and show the actual settings where suggested.

Also, would you mind holding off on ticking “resolved” until confirmation that it is resolved? As a support engineer myself, I typically at least wait for a response, only closing it without such after an opportunity to provide it. Thanks!

I just noticed something interesting. In MONTH or DAY views (on the calendar page) all of the categories are displaying (as they should). In AGENDA view, I must select a category, and it will display events. As I select two categories, it will continue to display events, but if I select three, back to nothing displayed. It doesn’t seem to matter which two categories I select, if I select a third, it breaks. Since you can’t select any categories in the UPCOMING EVENTS disbar widget (as a user) I can’t test it there.

I tried adding “preselected calendar filters” in the settings (counter to the advice) and get the same result. Everything shows in the MONTH or DAY view shows, with the red “X” in categories (to clear the filters) in any view, including AGENDA, which still isn’t showing any events events, nor is UPCOMING EVENTS widget.

I have since removed those default filters, as was the original advice anyway. Awaiting your feedback. Thanks!

    Hi @wynaco,

Thanks for the extremely detailed report.

I have 2 suggestions for you:

    1. Can you try loading the Agenda view after disabling the Wordfence plugin and clearing any cache? Wordfence has been known to cause conflicts.

    2. If the problem persists, I suggest a manual reinstall. These instructions will preserve your current events:

    – Perform a complete back up of your database before proceeding further
    – Delete the file uninstall.php from the plugin directory that is currently on the server (found under /wp-content/plugins/all-in-one-event-calendar). Deleting this file ensures that when you uninstall the current version of the plugin, your event data and calendar settings will be preserved when you delete the plugin (don’t skip this step – it’s important!)
    – Deactivate the All-in-One Event Calendar using your WordPress Dashboard.
    – Delete the All-in-One Event Calendar using your WordPress Dashboard.
    – Database -> wp_options, click option_name to sort and delete everything with ai1ec_, this will delete plugin settings but events will remain in the database.
    – Now install the latest version.

    Hello again,

    I disabled WordFence, no change.

I then made a backup of the database and the entire website for good safety.

Without touching the database tables, I deactivated and deleted the ai1ec plugin, then installed and activated it again. The “upcoming events” widget and also “agenda view” on the calendar page are once again behaving as they should. (If they had not, then I would have repeated the steps, including deletion the “ai1ec_” options from the DB.)

Thanks for your assistance. Feel free to tick “resolved” finally. ??

    Good work @wynaco !
