Is there an up to date admin CSS reference and/or style guide for WordPress 5.6 and beyond? Looking at 5-10 plugins, even more recent ones, everyone has their own idea of layout, styling, colors, buttons, sliders, and what not …

Not trying to step on anyone’s toes here, I’m curious about this considering the vast amount of plugins written with their own style, and usually quite different from that of WordPress Admin itself.

AFAIK there is nothing regarding plugin UI styling. The review team is more concerned with bad behavior than bad design. Which explains the variety you’ve observed. While there are resources which enable you to create a similar UI like the Settings API, their use is not mandatory.

Thanks for getting back to me.

For what it’s worth, I think it’d be nice with some sort of reference for available CSS and/or JS functionality already present in Admin. I think it would make for a much better UX and I think it would save a lot of people a lot of time.

They may even (possibly) be able to focus more on fixing bad behavior if they didn’t have to spend time finding out which CSS/JS (library or self-made) they should use for their specific plugin ??
