Unwanted Weblinks in Template

We have started a wordpress blog for our homeschooling (Do Something 1.3 by WordPress Themes). We found a good template for the blog, but it has unwanted links in the footer and on the side. The side link has a wordpress themes link, which is OK, but would like to delete in addition to the other tasteless links. For example I do not want to promote colon cleaning.

I have temporarily deleted the footer and the unwanted links disappear from the bottom, but on the side the items also disappear including the Meta also disappear. HELP with code with the code below.
