Unwanted overhaul in updated – including a bug!

I just updated and was alerted by an error to do with ppress_meta_data table not found – then noticed that the nice and simple avatar upload plugin had mutated to something much more complex.

I already have login, registration etc covered in my site, why would I suddenly want another complicating things?

Disabling fixed the error message, but now looking for a new avatar upload plugin. Shame!
