• Hello, today I noticed that all of my site’s sidebar widget headings have a link inserted to our Instagram account. I can’t figure out what is causing this. I have already deactivated all the site plugins to check for any incompatibility, but it persists when the plugins are all deactive (I have reactivated them now).

Recently I was looking at adding an Instagram feed to our sidebar, but I didn’t complete it. I can’t find any reference to the Instagram account in the site theme CSS or functions (we’re using Catchbox, free version). Any help for where to look would be appreciated.

    The website is https://www.torontotwilightrotary.com/

  • Hello Dr.Aitch,

Do you mean the Instagram icon next to the Facebook and Twitter icons? If so this looks like it is code withing a ‘Text Widget’ inside the Appearance, Widgets options of your dashboard.

If that is not what you mean, let me know exactly what link you are wishing to remove and I’ll see if anything springs to mind.

    Kind regards,
    Drew

Drew, sorry – what I mean is the Search widget box, and the titles of Upcoming Events and Latest Updates all are hyperlinked to our Instagram account. I noticed this yesterday when I was writing the text for the top “Follow Us” text widget, but the links in the other sections remain whether that top widget is present or not.

    Thanks Dr.Aitch,

Yes I see what you mean now, very odd indeed.

Could you go to your Dashboard, and Appearance, Widgets and see what the title is set to for the Search widget?

The Search widget has it’s title left blank.

    Hmmm,

There is definitely a hyperlink over the widgets, it might be something that is in your theme. I know you said you have turned off all plugins but have you tried changing the theme to a standard one?

If you are using a child theme you could try changing to the main theme and seeing if the widgets behave normally. Otherwise try a WordPress standard one like Twenty Fourteen and see if the widgets behave then.
