Unwanted Duplicate Excerpt

I’ve been trying to set up my own blog using the twentysixteen WordPress theme, but I’ve been having some major issues setting it up visually and I can’t seem to find anyone else with a similar issue.

When I initially finished and published my first blog posts, for whatever reason, the main page would display all four posts in their entirety twice over. The duplicate would for some reason have the date and tags displayed which caused the duplicate post to get squished and leave a blank space to the left.

I’ve installed the Easy Custom Auto Except plugin, which has solved the issue of the homepage displaying the entire posts in one go, as it now only displays the excerpts I created for each post. Unfortunately, the duplication issue is still present. Beneath the excerpt is a copy of the featured image and excerpt, squashed by the unwanted display of tags.

I’ve done next to nothing to play around with the theme, and I can’t see the presence of conflicting plugins. I am completely clueless as to how to get rid of this duplicated excerpt, as well as why it’s there to begin with.

I’m using the updated versions of both WordPress and twentysixteen. If you need more information on anything related then please specify. I’m sorry if anything sounded too vague, but I’m really at a loss here.
