Unwanted ads in Astaria Lite theme?

    I’m putting together a site on behalf of someone else and we’re trying out the Astaria Lite theme while we consider upgrading to the Pro. I’ve just noticed upon visiting the site today, that there are unwanted ads in the text on the home page, within the footer text – actually, within the entire site. Links that contain pop up ads when hovered upon. There are also pop ups windows when I click the admin bar.

    These ads were not on the site in the first few days that I spent setting it up, but they’re certainly there now. The only additional things I’ve installed into this site are Contact Form 7 (I planned to deactivate it after buying Pro, but needed to demo a contact form) and All in One Favicon (since removed) so I’m assuming these ads have come from this theme?

    I love this theme but didn’t realise I’d be getting lugged with unwanted advertising when installing it. I’m now having a small panic about how to explain these ads to the people who have entrusted me to set up their site!

    I’d like to upgrade to Pro, but will these ads go away if I do so? Otherwise I’m unfortunately going to have to keep looking for another theme.

  • I don’t see any ads on your site – and it’s unlikely a theme from www.remarpro.com has any ads – totally not allowed.

    Do you see the ads in all browsers? Sounds like it might be a browser extension or something specific to your computer.

    My default browswer is Chrome and I just tried in Internet Explorer – no ads when I view the site with that. Thank goodness it just seems to be Chrome causing the problem – not that I’m happy to now find out I have something dodgy going in with Chrome or my computer, but I am relieved it’s not an issue with the theme at least!

    Oddly though, I’m only seeing these pop ups and text link ads (via Chrome) when I access forasgard.org (which isn’t run on the same theme) and the liss.forasgard.org subdomain. I’m also seeing them when I go to the theme developer’s site at https://www.towfiqi.com/ But I’m not getting this adware problem on any other website (so far) including the other WordPress powered sites I have. Urgh. I’m cursed!

    Yeah, Chrome has extensions that do stuff like that. Try disabling them or at last resort, reinstall it.

    I just looked at the extensions and found something there I hadn’t (knowingly) installed and the problem has been solved now that it’s gone. Thanks for all of your help, I’m so glad it was nothing to do with the theme after all! ??

    Me too – and glad it was just that and not something worse :)!
