    Hi all,
I’ve been trying to import a Blogger blog to WordPress. It works fine, doesn’t give me any errors. All posts are imported. The real problem are the comments. The Blogger one has over 3.400 comments, yet WordPress only processes around 200.

Here’s the catch: These 200 comments it processes are not the 200 first; they are totally randomized. I have comments from the last post written as well as from the first post.

The imported comments also follow no specification: some of them were posted anonymously, some are from Blogger logged-in users, some are from regular (non-anon, non-logged) users. There is no one-common denominator for the comments that get imported.

The XML file that I’ve exported from Blogger has all the 3.400 comments.

    What I’ve tried so far:

    • Direct import (from my self-hosted WP, I tried importing the Blogger thru Tools > Import
    • WP.com import (created a wp.com blog, tried importing directly from Blogger)
    • Direct RSS import (exported an RSS file from Blogger and tried importing to self-hosted WP
    • WP.com RSS import
    • Created another Blogger (on another account), sucessfully imported the old Blogger there and tried the whole process again

I’ve ran out of ideas and haven’t been sleeping for the past 4 days. Any ideas will be thanked.

Oh, yeah, I’ve had a friend try hosting locally WP, but it still wouldn’t retrieve all comments.

Canha, I’m not very good with English so excuse me if I missed the problem or can not explain it I imagine the solution.

When you export the comments of the blogger to an XML file it comes with all the comments, right?

How about writing a PHP script to parse this XML and insert the data in the comments from wordpress?
Theoretically this would solve the problem.

I do not know the structure of XML that generates the blogger but if you post a snippet of code can try to help with the script to insert the data in the comments from wordpress.

    Hey Leobaiano,

I was just about to post this. That’s what I did. I got a friend to write a PHP script to parse the XML.

There was only one problem: the tags (or categories) from Blogger got cut off whenever there was a special character (such as “?”, “ê”, “?”). But I’m guessing that was a problem generated by the PHP script.

To finalize, if anyone runs into this problem, you’re royally screwed xD

    Well that solved Canha!

Throw the characters think it’s something the blogger myself, if I remember correctly they cut the special characters of the title to generate the url friendly.

    Hey Canha,

If it makes you feel better, it seems there’s actually a bigger problem over at Blogger with the comments…

Hopefully it’s fixed soon as I’m also trying to move over to WP and bring my comments in!
