• Hi there,

I already have a website up and running which is written in Coldfusion. On the website I have a news section: https://www.mydomain.co.uk/news/ and I want to install WordPress to take over from this part of the website. I’ve chosen WordPress as it will be perfect for tagging news posts and allowing other people to easily log in to the CMS to add and edit news content.

I am now unsure where to install WordPress, should I do this on the root or https://www.mydomain.co.uk/news/ (i.e. the news folder on my root) I am unsure of the pro’s and con’s of each.

Would someone be kind enough to elighten me? ??

  • Assuming you only want WordPress to run the News section of the site, then yes, you can install it into the news folder. I did exactly that on one of my own sites in the past. Installing it on the root could potentially cause a conflict with your Coldfusion site, especially if you try to use permalinks.

Thanks ambrosite. I installed wordpress to https://www.mydomain.co.uk/news/ and it works fine. I already have a Coldfusion news section, but since .cfm pages take precedence over .php pages at the moment, I am able to test wordpress meets my needs in parallel with my existing Coldfusion news section. Once I’ve got my wordpress content setup I’ll change the order of displaying index.php before index.cfm
