Unsubscribed user can’t resubscribe

I’ve testing this plugin by putting my own email address in the form and it gets added to the list. But if I were to unsubscribe from the list and then use the form to resubscribe, it doesn’t change my status in Mailchimp to Subscribed. Any ideas how to accomplish this?
