    Hi

    I started a backup going about 5 hours ago. Went off and did something. When I came back the bar had not moved from about the 40% position. I cannot do anything on the site now. It’s not reloading, it’s not allowing any other interaction.
    How can I get into my site to do anything?
    This is very frustrating!!
    How do I set my backups so I can do other things and have it running in the background. Like over 5 hours to do 45% of a backup and then freezes everything out!!
    Help

    The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi,

    To help us work out the cause of your problem, can you please send us a copy of the backup log?
    This log can be found in the Existing Backups tab of the UpdraftPlus dashboard.
    If you cannot access the UpdraftPlus dashboard, then you can find the log file in the ‘wp-content/updraft’ directory via FTP or your hosts’ file manager.

    You can paste the logs here: https://pastebin.com and share the link with us.

    Thanks,
    Harshad

    Hi Rob,

    Can you please enable WP_DEBUG mode, Please add following lines to your wp-config.php file

    define(‘WP_DEBUG’, true);
    define(‘WP_DEBUG_LOG’, true);
    define(‘WP_DEBUG_DISPLAY’, false);

    This will create a debug.log file inside wp-content folder, Please paste the logs at pastebin and share the link with us.

    Thanks

    Hi,

    Apparently there are no critical errors logged in the debug.log file, Can you please explain us in detail since when the white screen is displaying.

    Did it happen when you attempt the restore the backup?

    If you can check with your host and get a copy of PHP error we should be able to get to know the reason for white screen.

    As the debug.log only shows warnings.

    Hi

    I initiated the BackUp start around 10.30am my time (GMT+2)
    Then I went to lunch, and when I came back about 5 hours later the progress bar was at about 45%. The text underneath that usually has a timer and progress log was totally inactive.
    Then this is when the the site became sluggish and then later inactive.
    I did read that the chunk size should be reduced to 50MBs and mine was at 500Mbs
    Not sure if that was the issue, but in the past it has been very slow and unresponsive as well.
    I am not sure how long a site of around 4.5GBs should take to back up, but mine takes well over 7 hours.

    Hi,

    I can see the site back online now?

    Reducing the split archive size to lower value helps to overcome the backup that being stalled or gets killed off.

    Did you reduce the split archive size to 50Mb?

    For backup size of 4.5 Gb, I’d recommend you to use WP-CLI add-on or upgrade to Premium.

    With UPdraftPlus + WP-CLI commands, the backup process should take less time.

    Thanks. Yep it’s running again, and yes I reduced the size.
    I will do another run tomorrow and see how it performs.
