    I see the error reported here is the “MERCHANT_NOT_ENABLED_FOR_REFERENCE_TRANSACTION”

    This error (MERCHANT_NOT_ENABLED_FOR_REFERENCE_TRANSACTION) is known to us for some time, but we believe the issue needs to be looked at from the PayPal server side, not by the plugin. We have engaged PayPal for this and are awaiting feedback from PayPal.

    Reference Transactions are recommended to have enabled in any case. If you have not applied for this yet, it’s worth applying.

    We have a bug open with the server team on the PayPal side.

    I have linked the bug that we opened for this case to this thread, so once we have a solution for this, we will let you know

    PayPal requires Reference Transactions for certain applications, such as creating Billing Agreements.

    So if you use Vaulting, e.g. with subscriptions, then Reference Transactions are a requirement. At least for now, because the integration is about to get additional options to enable these features for more users.

    But since we have not heard back from you, I’m marking this thread as resolved.
