Unlisted YouTube Video Doesn't Display

  • I created an unlisted video on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JxZjH2Lfd1A

    I placed this link in a post, but when I publish the post, it just displays the link, not the embedded video.

    If I change the video to “Public” and republish the post, the embedded video shows up just fine.

    If I change the video back to “Unlisted” and republish the post, the video goes back to being a link.

    I think this is a bug — or is there a way to fix this or work around it?

  • Check that you have configured WP to allow Embeds in Settings -> Media.

    Yep, embeds are allowed and working fine in all other instances.

    My guess is that it’s because the video is, effectively, not public – so WP is doing the honourable thing and not displaying it. I don’t know of any way around this other than making the video public.

    But unlisted is public, it is just not listed in search. There is a separate setting for private. That’s why I think this is a bug — it should be accessible if you have the link. Just my 2￠

    I’m not a core dev, so I don’t know exactly what criteria was used here. If you can replicate the issue in Twenty Ten with no plugins, then you could try posting it on Trac as a possible bug.

    I’m having the same issue, any way to change this? Using the core? Otherwise I’ll use a plugin…

    Just an update, none of the plugins I have tried work for unlisted videos either ??
