Unknown file in WordPress core

    Hi,

    I have a few unknown files after upgrading to WordPress 5.4, and it says the following message:
    This file is in a WordPress core location but is not distributed with this version of WordPress. This scan often includes files leftover from a previous WordPress version, but it may also find files added by another plugin, files added by your host, or malicious files added by an attacker

    Files as:
    wp-includes/class-wp-object-cache.php
    wp-includes/css/dist/block-directory/style-rtl.css
    wp-includes/css/dist/block-directory/style.css
    and 9 more like this.

    So, any way to know what to do, like delete file or mark as fixed?

    Hi @wfphil,

    I have ignored the files in one scan and chose the option if there any changes in the files, then notify.

    They are still showing in the ignored files. So, what should I do?

    Thank you for the update.

    Please try this. Use the STOP IGNORING button for each scan result for “This file is in a WordPress core location but is not distributed with this version of WordPress”.

    Now run a new scan to see if the “This file is in a WordPress core location but is not distributed with this version of WordPress” files are still listed in the new scan.

    If the “This file is in a WordPress core location but is not distributed with this version of WordPress” scan results are still listed then go to the WordPress Dashboard >> Updates page and press the Re-install Now button.

    Run a new scan.

    If the “This file is in a WordPress core location but is not distributed with this version of WordPress” scan results are still listed then install a maintenance mode plugin so website visitors see a maintenance page. Install and switch to the Twenty Twenty theme. Deactivate all normal plugins except for Wordfence and the maintenance mode plugin.

    Run a new scan. Are the “This file is in a WordPress core location but is not distributed with this version of WordPress” scan results still listed?

    It fixed the issue.

    Now it is not showing any errors regarding WordPress files.
