Hi – how would I create a simple ‘List’ unit with 6 or 8 items where I can add various asins of products I specifically want to display, rather than your plugin finding products via contextual or search methods etc? Thanks

    Hi,

It should be possible with the following steps.

    1. Go to Dashboard -> Amazon Auto Links -> Add Unit by Search.
    2. Choose “Item Look-up” in the Types option.
    3. In the following screen, you enter ASINs.

But I just noticed that there is a bug with the current version (4.0.5) that does not let you proceed to the Item Look-up option screen.

Let me see if I can fix this. Thanks for asking about this.

Hi – thanks for getting back to me. I’ll wait until I hear that you have managed to fix the bug. Thanks again.

Hi – just wondered if you’ve managed to make any progress with attempting to fix the bug? Thanks.

    Hi,

Sorry for making you wait so long.

Please try the development version 4.0.6b01 which should fix the problem.

Download and upload the zip file of the development version to you site and then follow the above steps mentioned earlier.

Hi – thanks for that. No need for apologies – I’m just delighted you are so efficient at providing excellent support. Sorry to sound dumb, but I don’t normally update plugins by the manual method – I chose to update from your zip file via plugins>add new>Add Plugins>Upload Plugin.

The install process takes place and then I get the error message ‘Destination folder already exists – plugin installation failed.

Maybe you could advise what I’m doing wrong? I assume the plugin has not updated – when I select ‘Add Unit By Search’, I then choose the ‘Item Look Up’ button and ‘Proceed’. The next screen is headed ‘Add Unit by Search – Product Search’. It has a long list of info fields, starting with Unit Name, Seach Keyword, Query Per Term, Category, Sort Order etc etc. Should I be seeing something different if the plugin had updated correctly? Thanks.

Ah, you need to delete the existing Amazon Auto Links first.

    Hope this helps.

OK thanks – I might just wait until a new version is available (if you plan one) which I can install the usual update way within my dashboard – I ony say this as I’m not very good with settings etc and I have things the way I want them in AAL at the moment. I don’t want to lose all my settings if I uninstall the plugin to intall the development one.

It should be fixed in v4.0.6.

Let me know if it still does not work.

Thanks for your help. I tried to create a unit for 3 specific Amazon products. A new page/post was created just for the unit – is that correct? Nothing shows on the page, other than the error message ‘Amazon Auto Links: PAAPIError: NoResults: No results found for your request’, but maybe that’s because I added 3 asins at the same time to the ‘search keyword’ field, with commas separating them. I’ve been able to achieve what I want by a workaround of simply adding the ASINs to a unit previously created in the defunct Amazon WordPress plug which, of course, Amazon Auto Links does a fantastic job of converting.

A new custom post type’s post of the plugin should be created, not a normal post.

    Follow these steps.

    1. Go to Dashboard -> Amazon Auto Links -> Add Unit by Search.
    2. Choose Item Look-up in the Types option and enter the other necessary options. Then press Proceed
    3. In the ASINs option, enter your desired ASINs and click on Create.
    4. In the following screen, click on the View link at the top right hand side corner.
    5. See the result.

After creating a unit, you can insert the unit output by shortcode, widet, or auto-insert.

Or if you simply want to display product links in a post, paste the product url in the editor.

Hi – sorry to bother you, again – I didn’t get back to you earlier as I’ve been busy at work. I’m obviously doing something wrong – I left most of the fields as they are, other than entering a few ASINs in the ASINS WHITE LIST area – when I click the ‘View Unit’ link on the top right of the page I get the error message: ‘Amazon Auto Links: 400: Bad Request ; InvalidParameterValue: The value provided in the request for Keywords is invalid.’

    Hi,

Sounds like you haven’t entered ASINs in the ASINs option. Also try temporarily remove any filter items including the ones in the white list.

If this doesn’t help, post the screenshot of the unit editing page.

Hi – I’m conscious of taking up your time so I may put the matter on hold for a while. I think my main issue relates to not adding the ASINS in the right location – the ‘ASINs option’ you refer to. Where exactly is this? On the ‘Edit Unit’ window I can only see two references to ASINS – both in the Unit product Filters area (White List ASIN and Black List ASIN). I assume I don’t add the ASINs I require anywhere there? So where is the main area where I add the list of ASINs for the specific products I wish to display in a unit? It is probably staring me in the face, but I can’t see where I should be addin the ASINs – sorry!

In the unit criteria I’ve chosen the first link style (https://www.amazon.[domain-suffix]/%5Bproduct-name%5D/dp/%5Basin%5D/ref=%5B…%5D?tag=%5Bassociate-id%5D… (Default)).

    Thanks

    Hi,

Sounds like your unit is not Item look-up unit. Try these steps as mentioned earlier.

Hi – I’ve been choosing the ‘Item Look Up’ option all along, since you sorted out the bug recently where that option was not working.

When I choose ‘Item Look up’ and ‘Proceed’ it takes me to the ‘Add Unit by Search – Product Search’ window. But this is where I’m unable to see the option to add ASINS. You say ‘ In the ASINs option, enter your desired ASINs’ but I can’t see a location to add the ASINS. All I see are the fields for: Unit Name, Search Keyword, Query per Term, Category, Sort Order, Associate ID, Associate ID, Number of Items, Image Size, Direct Link Bonus, Title Length, Description Length, Link Style, Credit Link and Auto Insert.

When I then click CREATE I’m taken to the ‘Edit Unit’ page. As mentioned earlier, the only reference to ASINs I can see on this page is White List and Black List fields for ASINS.

Is there an ASINS location somewhere else where I can directly add ASINS for specific products? – if so, I can’t see it.
    Thanks
