Unit & Quantity As Variation
-
Hi,
Apologies in advance for the long thread.
We are setting up a product, name blocks. The visitor has 5 designs to choose from and the quantity will vary based on the name (one block per letter).
First, is there a way to add a unit type behind the price that’s shown. So it will have, “Per Block” after the price?
Secondly, my wife has sold this on Etsy and one of the problems she runs into is people order a quantity of 1, thinking 1 is ordering one name rather than one block.
So our thought was to create a variation so you could have a drop down field with values equal to quantity, but with “Blocks – $x.xx” behind it so it gives them another opportunity to realize they are paying per block and what the total price would be for x number of blocks.
As an example, it would be a drop down menu with these values.
1 Block: $6.50
2 Boocks: $13.00
3 Blocks: $19.50So we did this thinking we would also be able to increase the price for each quantity to match that in the value (the $6.50, $13, $19.50, etc).
We added 50 values, thinking that’s more than anyone would probably order. However, what I didn’t realize is in order to add the pricing you have to create variations from it, which, unless I am missing something means you are creating all the permutations with the 5 designs, which adds up to 250 variations.
Now, I have to update all the variations, adding a picture to each one (because I want the picture to change when someone selects one of the designs) and I have to go through all 250 variations and add the pricing individually because all five listings that are a 1 quantity will need the same price, same with all the 2 quantities, etc.
There has to be a better way, I’m just not seeing it. Even if I make the quantity variations smaller, it will still be 5x that amount. And we don’t want to use a text field for input because of the problem we had on Etsy.
Any ideas? Thanks. David.
