Unique=true not working

I have 4 columns of testimonial widgets on a page – I use the ‘category=’ in the shortcode and would like to ensure that the same testimonial from a particular category does not appear more that once. When I use ‘unique=true’ I just get ‘testimonial not found’ message. Thanx.
