• Hey hey,

Hopefully someone will be able to assist, i’ve been working with WordPress for a good couple of years and for the life of me can’t figure this out or even if it’s possible.

So, my client is selling routers. Every router he sells needs to be assigned a serial number or in this case and sku, these numbers directly reflect the box/router that the customer will be receiving, this is for tracking purposes as the client needs to know which client is receiving which router as some of them may need to be returned.

I’ve scoured the web for plugins and solutions and have come up with nothing, does anyone know of a plugin that is capable of doing this or if this is outside the realm of possibilities for WordPress?

Your feedback would be highly appreciated

  • WordPress itself doesn’t know anything about SKUs (Shop Keeper’s Units) or item serial numbers… but if told how to do so then it would gladly assist with that.

Your cart provider may have the capability to add the serial number to a shipping code or even a SKU and serial number to the shipping data.

I’d expect the ability to use a SKU with any shopping cart and, if the length allows, an extended SKU with the serial number should be easy enough.

Ask them for some help with this.

Adding a serial or sku code to the shipping data isn’t the problem, i’m well aware that, that can be done. My problem is that I need the order to reflect a serial number (not generic) of a specific product so that it correlates to the serial number on the products box.

In essence this needs to be done prior to shipping/checking out otherwise how would the order know which serial number to use for the specific product being purchased, in my mind this step has to be included into the product/s information/data. We have ONE product that we do not want to recreate as individual products purely for the sake of allocating a specific serial/sku number to each item that is sold.

We need to be able to enter serial number into woocommerce and allocate them to specific products/items which then should reflect upon checkout of said item
