Unique Entries in a Table

I want to be able to prevent duplicate entries in a table. I have simple table containing a list of business names and an auto increment field. The business name field is set to “Single Text Field” and I’ve checked the Unique flag. However this doesn’t seem to prevent duplicated appearing in the table.
Am I missing something here?
