I apologize for any frustration with this. We’ve worked hard to ensure our free version includes all of the features we believe are needed for basic contact forms — but it’s true that there are many additional features that would require an upgrade to access.
We’d originally not included popups to explain that a paid license was needed for certain options (instead they were only greyed out), but the result was that we had quite a large number of free version users who were frustrated and confused about why those options didn’t work. The explanatory popups seem to have helped alleviate that within our support, but I’m sorry to hear they caused you additional frustration instead.
