• Yeap, they’re suddenly charging for what was free. I just uninstalled it. If I’m going to have to pay to have posts automatically shared on social media, I’ll look for a better plugin.

If you’re a casual user, you can continue to make up to 30 social shares per month for free, but if you share more than 30 times per month, you can upgrade to the new Basic plan.?

Jetpack’s social auto-sharing feature, formerly known as Publicize, has been free since it was first released 10 years ago. During that time, it rarely received any significant updates, and the features that have been added were only available with a paid plan.

With over 1 million posts shared per day, we’re excited to start giving our sharing feature the time it deserves. We now have a dedicated team working full-time to take auto-sharing to the next level, along with several other planned features, collectively known as Jetpack Social.

You can check our FAQ page for more information.

Totally agree. The social share is worth maybe $1 a month. I can hit post and then click the two share buttons already on the page. The fee they want is way out of line for such an ancillary tool. Nobody asked for it to be “developed” – all it needs to do is what it’s always done.

Such a move looks awfully like a classic example of predatory pricing to me: make it free, wait until every one uses it and all the free alternatives have gone, and then start charging. After all, it costs nothing to make a function call, which is all an autoshare is.

I find myself looking very warily at Jetpack now, and I may simply deinstall it.

In the meantime, does anybody have a recommended autosharing plugin for Twitter?

We understand that the recent change in pricing for our social features may be disappointing. However, we want to assure you that this decision was made in order to improve the service we provide. For a long time, these features were not actively being developed and were offered for free. However, we have now allocated a dedicated team to work on creating new features and improving functionality for social sharing. We believe that this investment will ultimately benefit our users and provide a better overall experience. Thank you for your understanding.
