Unfortunately, as you should know being in the software development space, deploying a covert and unannounced update like this is bound to break sites and be seen as an unwanted intrusion. It really is paramount to a hack/malware being installed on users sites.

    The plugin owners should really be banned for this. I understand it was a mistake with good intentions, but that is not always going to be the case, nor is it an excuse for the behavior.
