Unexpectedly good
-
I’m embarrassed to admit that I thought that if there was an “official” Google Maps widget, this was it. Turns out it isn’t.
My google account is not my real email address or identity, since I get about a hundred emails a day and want to be able to easily identify where spam is coming from.
Having to log in and create an API key in order for the map to work is a pain, since Google doesn’t make it easy for anyone to do so unless you’re not only a computer whiz but psychic as well. No useful descriptions exist of how to create the key, which one you need, why you need restrictions…anyway, after that idiotic process I returned to this widget after trying literally six others that either didn’t provide a lightbox or just simply sat there doing nothing or worse, trying to get me to upgrade before offering a map of the location I want!I don’t like leaving negative reviews, but I can leave a positive one for the widget that simply worked (once I said ‘yeah, yeah whatever’ to google).
I can’t wait to find out what’s going to happen if Google tries to restrict my placement of google maps on other sites I’ve created. Maybe a Bing widget would be better. But that isn’t anything to do with the developers of this app, who have done a good job.
