It appears to be related to the “import to media library” option. When I disable that, the error does not appear.

Hey, sorry I thought I replied the other day.

Yes you’re right, it’s coming from that.

The <div id="it-fatal-error-message-container … shouldnt be there and it’s upsetting the process.

Searching for that id on google found this code

    https://github.com/wp-plugins/ithemes-exchange/blob/master/lib/classes/it-error.php

Are you using the iThemes Exchange plugin?

I’m wondering if the iThemes Exchange plugin has an error that is getting in the way of the image processing.

Would you mind pasting in the stuff after <div id="it-fatal-error-message-container . That should tell us why it’s giving an error status.

Looking at the source code for the plugin it looks like it only gives an error message when the server memory runs out. (A quick glance, I could be wrong)

This question/answer on stack exchange seems to be very similar. Option 5 from the accepted answer is tempting. You may, and many other users may, have errors relating to other plugins. If that’s the case option 5 would help me work around them … even though it is a hack that may in fact break other things.
