I am a photographer with a website looking to change to nextGen-pro for galleries and selling. Prior to that I am looking to familiarise myself with nextGen using the free version on a sandbox site. I have recently moved to 1&1 ionos for hosting.

I go to plug ins to add nextgen – install and activate. Go to create gallery add title select images for upload (all 600px by 400px done specifically for testing). Start upload – the bars go across then I get a yellow triangle saying “runtime html 5” if I hover. It gets to the end of the list and I get a pop up saying

An unexpected error occured. This is most likely due to a server misconfiguration. Check your PHP error log or ask your hosting provider for assistance.

If I go to manage galleries I find it has created multiple galleries – one for each image.

I tried uploading to media and then selecting from there – when I hit import images the green bar saying in progress comes up and it hangs. I left it over an hour before cancelling, checked manage galleries and it had created one gallery with one image.

I contacted the host and the php error log shows no errors.

I have created a brand new sub domain install with no theme and only the single plug in next gen. I have renamed the images. I have clear caches. I have tried multiple browsers. I have switched off browser plug ins.

PHP settings are as follows Server Settings

Operating System : Linux (64 Bit)
    Server : Apache
    Memory usage : 31.75 MByte

I have tried everything I can think off and followed all guidance and advice.

Is there a clash with that particular host? Am I missing something incredibly basic?

As I said the plan is to use the paid version of this software on my main site – but if I cannot get the free version to work I am going to be looking elsewhere.

I have just noticed on the site details above the memory limit is being stated as -1. I thought that might be the cause but have rechecked on the sandbox and the memory limit there is 640 and it shows the same behaviour.

    Hi @starsphinx

Please, check with your hosting provider that these requirements are available in their environment: https://www.imagely.com/docs/requirements/

I noticed that some of them are correct, but perhaps something is missing.
Please, check that again and write us back.

Hi, I have double checked the requirements and all are met or exceeded.

Further investigations have shown that if I go to “manage galleries” “add new gallery” and then to add gallery/images I can create a single gallery with multiple photos.

I have also discovered that if I use my laptop (also windows 10) everything works as it should – I have requested advice on this on the miscellaneous board. However it does suggest the problem is going to be on my desktop machine – which makes no sense whatsoever but hey.

I have discovered further issues with the wp photo seller which means I am going to have to take the plunge and go for nextgen pro – Having it working through my laptop has reassured me the issue is not the program clashing with my host. I am happy if you wish to close this and thank you for your help

    Hi @starsphinx,

That’s interesting to hear. I don’t think that’s expected to have such different behavior from a laptop versus a desktop, especially if using the same browser and OS.

Can you please make sure that you are uploading the same batch of files from both the desktop and laptop?

    Please let us know

I am always reassured when experts say something is interesting – it generally means I have not missed something simple lol.

I will prepare a new test batch and place on both machines and retest and let you know the results.

Have just run several mirror tests across both machines – end result is there was an issue with the original test images I was using – something about a runtime HTML 5 came up in yellow warning triangles but disappeared really fast.

I will now go and try and find out what that means and how it got on or in those images.

    Thank you for your help.

    Thanks to you!
