    Hi Frank,

Transient caching will cache the menu on the first page you visit.

Let’s say for example you have active link background colour set to red but your main menu in blue.

If you visit the About Us page as your first page then it will be cached at this point and all subsequent page loads on other pages will still show the “About Us” page as the highlighted page.

Therefore if you want to maintain this functionality you can’t use transient caching.

If you are not concerned with using these then you can enable it without problems.

I hope that helps clarify it for you!

Thank you. This makes sense. Seems to me it would be OK for a single page website but not much else unless you aren’t using any colors to identify the page you are on.

    Hi Frank,

Yes, its useful for single page sites or sites that don’t use colour identifiers for the page you are currently on.

Unfortunate that they can’t work side by side but if you think about how the transient caches work it makes sense, the only option is to save a cache value for every page on the site but this can get un-wiedly on pages with 250 pages and thousands of blog posts and could quickly become counter-productive!

Still the option is there for those that need it.

    Enjoy!

    Hi,

I have read about transient caching but still don’t quite get it. In relation to your plugin, would you recommend to turn transient caching on or off per default?

I have a couple of pages with more than 300 posts, but only 5 – 10 pages. What would your recommendation be for those? An example can be seen here: https://www.123fakta.com/da/

    Thanks in advance!

Most importantly is what the author describes. If you click on a page the menu will show that highlighted (if you set the plugin to show a different color for active links). When you click on another page the active link will still show up highlighted UNLESS you leave transient caching enabled.

If you don’t highlight the active page in the settings you can turn off transient caching because it won’t matter.

    Hi guys,

Thanks for the help answering Frank – transient caching is great for saving on page load size and speed but it means any dynamic elements on the menu will be lost.

So if you don’t want anything dynamic (highlighted current page links etc.) then you can enable it, if not don’t.

Just play around with it and see what the benefits/drawbacks are.

Ok, thanks a lot for both of your answers ??
