    Hello everyone,

I am facing an issue with image accessibility on my WordPress website. Here’s the scenario:

    1. My website URL is mysite.com.
    2. I have a post titled “hello-world,” which is accessible at mysite.com/hello-world.
    3. I recently uploaded an image called “earth” to my WordPress media library.
    4. The image is be accessible at the URL mysite.com/uploads/year/month/earth.
    5. However, I noticed that when I access mysite.com/hello-world/earth, the image is also available at that URL.

I am confused about why the image is accessible on the specific post URL. I expected it to be available only at the default media library URL. Can anyone shed some light on why this is happening and how I can resolve it?

I appreciate any insights or suggestions you may have regarding this issue. Thank you in advance for your help!

    Best regards,

    Earthstoriez

  • Hey Earthstoriez!

I feel your confusion. WordPress can sometimes play tricks with URLs. The thing is, when you upload an image, WordPress automatically generates different sizes and variations of it. So, even though the default library URL is mysite.com/uploads/year/month/earth, it might also be accessible at mysite.com/hello-world/earth due to the way WordPress structures content.

To tackle this, you can consider tweaking your media settings. Head to your WordPress dashboard, navigate to Settings > Media and check the “Organize my uploads into month- and year-based folders” option. This might help keep things more organized and prevent direct access via post URLs.

Give it a shot and see if it sorts out the mystery for you! If you need more help, I’m here.
    Cheers!

    Hi, thank you.

This conversation over at stackexchange helped my to understand. WordPress creates an attachment post for every media file uploaded.

    mysite.com/uploads/year/month/earth is the upload url

    mysite.com/hello-world/earth is the attachment permaurl.

    I opted to remove attachment.
