I have checked my website logs from yesterday and confirmed that at least 5, and up to 9, requests for a specific page were not recorded by Koko. I have the log entries. Five are incoming from X (t.co). Analytics of the tweet on X confirm that the link was clicked about this many times.

I can’t post my website or log publicly.

It looks like there were a few misses for another page. I have logs for this one as well.

I have three types of caching enabled through SiteGround’s Speed Optimizer plugin: dynamic caching (NGINX), file-based caching and memcached.

    Hello @flaneuring,

Sorry for the late reply. I tried replying to the forum email notification, but apparently that does not work… Here is my reply from a couple of days ago:

    Hello flaneuring,

These people are probably running an ad-blocker that prevents Koko Analytics from counting (or “tracking”) them. I am afraid there is not much that can be done about this, as these ad-blockers use automatically updated filter lists.

    Best,
    Danny

    OK, thanks for the reply.

ChatGPT tells me about half of users in North America and Europe use ad blockers. If this is correct, I would need to double Koko metrics to estimate actual use.

    Hi @flaneuring,

I would say it really depends on your audience. I think over 80% of reasonably tech savvy users will run an ad-blocker, but very few outside of those circles.

Personally I’d say that it doesn’t really matter as long as the proportion remains constant. If your demographic suddenly all started using ad-blockers, this would change the meaning of your analytics quite a bit. But as long as the percentage of your visitors using an ad-blocker remains constant, it doesn’t really matter what the actual number is all that much.

Media sites throw a dialog box when I visit, detecting that I am using an ad blocker. Could Koko at least detect number of hits from ad blocker users in a day, even if they couldn’t be distinguished as individuals?

Yes, Koko is still useful for relative trends, but as a larger share of users use ad blockers, the metrics get blurry. The point, after all, is to get an accurate count.

I am a happy user of Koko with a Pro subscription that’s about to renew.
