    Hi

I was very surprised to notice something that I must have totally misunderstood:
    1. A page has comments
    2. Author of the page wants to stop discussion
    3. Unchecking “Allow comments”
==>Comments cannot be added anymore, but…
    a) They are visible
    b) MINE can still be edited

Researching forum, it believe the intention is to actually really just switch off the ability to add to a discussion but I feel it is not enough.
I was expecting to not see the whole discussion anymore.

    Anyhow:
    – CSS does not solve it, as the content is still in the source
    – arguing with several theme authors will be fruitless
    – I feel we need a 3rd checkbox in DISCUSSIONS: [ ] Hide
–>This can be also useful when you want to hide discussions for a while.
There could be a new method in core that themes could use (and of course filters, etc.)

Am I the only one who was expecting different behaviour from this flag?

    thanks

If I understand your question correctly, here is my take.

Unchecking “Allow comments” ==>Comments cannot be added anymore

That’s what should have happened – new comments cannot be added.

    but…
    a) They are visible

Unchecking “Allow comments” does not wipe off conceal old or existing comments.

    b) MINE can still be edited

Then you must have admin role.

I figured it…. still, this is a freeze of comments rather that a switch off. i expected I could remove them without deleting threats or css.
now i need to aee if there is a hook for the childtheme for an extra checkbox and checkmethods used by templates.

Better would be done by wp core but odds are probably low for it to happen.

    thanks

Glad you figured it out ??

it is not a WordPress core issue how to deal with disabled comments – it is down to the individual theme, general coded in comments.php
