uncategorized won’t change

    I know that you can not delete the Uncategorized category. I know also that you are SUPPOSED to be able to change it’s name. However, I have tried several times, and I can not get the name to change. Can anyone tell me what the secret is? Thanks!!

  • Create a new category. Change the Default Post Category to the new category. Delete the Uncategorized category–any posts in that category will be assigned to the “new category”.

    MichaelH, thanks for the response, but the Uncategorized category can NOT be deleted – it is a WORDPRESS rule. Apparently you have never tried to do this. The technique you mentioned above I am quite familiar with and have done it before – but this can NOT be done to the category called “Uncategorized”.

    Has anyone else successfully changed the name of this category, and got it to STICK?

    Yep, just deleted the Uncategorized category following the procedures described above.

    If you doubt this, backup your database, then try it.
