• Before 5.5, I can input non-English words in URL Slug of posts and save article.
After upgrade to 5.5, it is not possible to.

When I edit the field with non-English words and click save drafe, all non-English words disappear!

Old articles wont effect until edit post.

  • As far as I know I was never able to use non-English characters in the slug – WP always sanitized that field. But I only tested with Romanian special characters, it’s true, so I might be wrong.

My personal opinion is that one should only use standard characters in a slug field for the sake of general usage, but if you want to do that, some users reported that Allow Accents and Special Characters in Permalinks Plugin by Arpen Technologies does the trick.

Unfortunately, that plugin has not been officially tested with 5.5, so use it at your own risk and see if it works. (A user states that it works perfect with 5.4.2)

    Hope this helps.
    Best of luck!
