• I had this problem even before updating to WP 2.5, but its getting extremely frustrating to not be able to use the WP theme editor. I changed the permissions as high as 755 and even 777 with no success. The WP editor still says, if this was writable….. Anyone have an idea as to why I’m not able to use the WP editor on my theme? I’m using the Lunar Theme on https://www.oceanofperspectives.com

  • It is impossible to change themes! 5 minutes instalation… Yes, and 5 hours plus!!!

you shouldnt use the theme editor anyways. you should be doing that sorta stuff via ftp.

Since I’m not changing the theme itself, just adding codes, I’ve been using my file manager. I just felt it might be easier to use the WP editor instead of switching back and forth.

adding codes IS changing the theme.

I dont trust any browser to not do funky stuff to my code. Plus, there’s no undo in the theme editor. You somehow accidentaly delete a big hunk of code, its gone for good.

I’ve seen this issue on a different host, so you may want to contact your site host to see if they have a switch thrown somewhere. And I echo boober’s concern – make sure you have backups locally in case something is borked.

There are lots of free HTML/CSS editors out there, as well as local MySQL servers (e.g. Xammp), and free FTP programs (Filezilla).

I think you’ll find your workflow is easier and backups are easier if you don’t edit template files through the WP interface. My $.02.
