    Hi,

When our customers are trying to use the credit/debit card option built into Paypal they receive the message “We’re sorry, but we weren’t able to add this card. Try again later or add a different card.”

Is this a known error and/or is there a fix for this?

    Hi @themaincompany,

If this is the exact wording, then it comes from PayPal directly.
A user always has the chance to add a new payment method to their PayPal account while checking out.
But the plugin usually has no impact on whether this is successful or not as this process happens entirely on PayPal’s end. If the bank of the cardholder temporarily blocks the card for example, then this error could be the result.

Can you reproduce this behavior on your site with your live account and also with a sandbox account connected? If yes, then please enable Logging in the plugin settings and try again to see if any relevant errors are logged then.
    Thanks!

    Kind regards,
    Niklas

    Hi Niklas,

    Thanks for getting back.

We trialed paying with numerous cards with no success. This is not the first time that Paypal has failed to work correctly for no real reason.

Unfortunately, we decided to move our card payments over to Stripe. Even though this was harder to set up initially, the platform on first impressions seems more robust (Just in case anyone else has this issue too!).

    Thanks,
    Tom

    Hi @themaincompany,

    Thanks for the feedback.
The regular credit card processing by PayPal sometimes requires users to add attach the card to a PayPal account if PayPal’s security systems deem it to be necessary, which by itself can cause problems with the checkout process.

The PayPal Card Processing feature in PayPal Payments, however, decouples credit card processing from the regular PayPal gateway into an “unbranded” gateway exclusively for credit cards. This is supposed to reduce friction and increase conversion.
With the PayPal Card Processing, users can pay with credit cards without requiring a PayPal account for example. Users could also save their credit cards, similar to how Stripe does it.
But anyway, the most important thing is to find a solution that suits your needs and we appreciate all the feedback we can get.

    Kind regards,
    Niklas

    Hi Niklas,

    Thanks for coming back.

For any users that have a Paypal account, we’ve seen no problems. It’s users that don’t have a Paypal account where the plugin broke down. The Paypal Card Processing feature just would not accept any card from numerous customers, hence why we are now using Stripe. We’ve left Paypal on our site for convenience if customers have a Paypal account.

    Thanks,
    Tom

    we are now using Stripe

We did the same solution, I just enabled the Paypal plugin for some minutes after a couple of weeks, and the first card was rejected, so I reenabled stripe again.
